The island temple of Isis, the last built in the classical Egyptian style. Visit by day, or return for the evening sound and light show.
The experience
Philae Temple sits on Agilkia Island, just south of the old Aswan Dam, and was built to honour the goddess Isis. It was the last temple built in the classical Egyptian style. After the flooding of Lake Nasser, the whole complex was moved stone by stone from its original home on Philae Island to its present site.
The temple can be visited twice: once by day, and again at night, when a sound and light show tells its story. Guests usually visit Philae as part of a day of sightseeing in Aswan, together with other sites such as the Aswan High Dam.
